West Linn, OR Community

West Linn transforms into a winter wonderland each December, where long-standing traditions meet fresh celebrations, creating memorable moments for families and neighbors. From twinkling tree lightings to parade floats rolling through historic downtown Willamette, this Oregon community knows how to celebrate the season with heart and togetherness.

Tree Lighting Kicks Off the Season

The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Community Celebration at West Linn City Hall launched this year’s festivities on December 5th, drawing families together for an evening of seasonal cheer. The event featured the West Linn Community Chorus filling the air with carols while children decorated cookies and wrote letters to Santa. Santa arrived on a vintage fire engine at 6:05 PM, lighting the community tree moments later to kick off the holiday season officially.

Families enjoyed hot chocolate sponsored by View Pointe Wealth Management, face painting, and photos with Santa at Something Blue Photography’s studio, creating memories that last throughout the season. The introduction of a virtual wait list meant more time enjoying activities instead of standing in long lines.

Jolly Gingerbread Jamboree Parade

The Jolly Gingerbread Jamboree Holiday Parade rolls through Willamette Falls Drive each December, starting at 5:00 PM with festive floats, cheerful music, and community spirit. This beloved tradition showcases local organizations, school groups, and businesses that spend weeks preparing their entries.

Next year, the parade will partner with Special Olympics Oregon, adding a new dimension to this already meaningful celebration. The streets close at 4:00 PM to prepare for the procession, and residents line the sidewalks bundled in winter coats, waving at neighbors and catching candy tossed from passing floats.

Neighborhoods Light Up the Season

West Linn residents take holiday decorating seriously, turning entire streets into displays of seasonal cheer. Palomino Way has become known for its coordinated light displays, where neighbors work together to create synchronized presentations that draw visitors from surrounding communities.

From the quiet streets of Barrington Heights to the Willamette neighborhood, homes glow with everything from classic warm white rooflines to colorful LED arrangements. These residential displays reflect how West Linn families celebrate Christmas with creativity and neighborhood pride.

If you’re looking to experience these traditions firsthand and want to discover neighborhoods where celebrations bring people together, explore homes in communities full of holiday spirit throughout the area.

Holiday Bazaar Shopping Tradition

Each November, the West Linn Adult Community Center hosts the Annual Holiday Bazaar, featuring over 40 local vendors selling handcrafted items perfect for gift giving. Running from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM across two days, this free event includes homemade cinnamon rolls, hot cocoa, and unique artisan goods that you won’t find in typical retail stores.

Shoppers return annually to support local craftspeople while getting a head start on their holiday shopping lists, making it a tradition that benefits both the community and small business owners.

Volunteering Strengthens Community Bonds

Behind every successful celebration stands an army of volunteers who make the magic happen. The Holiday Parade alone requires a huge volunteer force to manage traffic, assist parade participants, and ensure safety for spectators lining the route.

The tree lighting event similarly depends on community members who help with setup, activities, and coordination. This spirit of giving back reinforces what makes West Linn holiday celebrations unique: they’re created by residents, for residents, building connections that last well beyond December.
