West Linn, OR Community

We’re already five days into the new year, and West Linn has packed the rest of January with activities that bring the community together. From creative workshops to basketball tournaments, there’s still plenty of time to make the most of winter 2026.

Weekly Library Programs Keep Going Strong

The West Linn Public Library continues its lineup of regular programs perfect for dropping in throughout the month. Book Babies storytime happens every Wednesday at 11:00am, giving the youngest readers exposure to songs and early literacy fun. Family Storytime on January 11 at 10:45am welcomes children ages 5 and under with stories, songs, and sign language.

Kids can share their reading progress with four-legged friends during Tales to Tails sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3:00pm. These programs run through the month and require no advance registration, though some have capacity limits.

Crafters meet regularly at the Common Threads Crochet & Knit Group every Tuesday at 10:00am for fellowship and fiber arts. This drop-in group welcomes all skill levels throughout January.

Midweek Activities and Workshops

Adults can grab a free take-home craft on January 10 at 10:00am to create a Book Page Umbrella Garland. No registration needed for this creative library offering.

Get practical kitchen skills at the Cooking Demo on Meal Prep and Menu Planning on January 13 at 6:00pm. Later that same day, join an Online Author Talk with David Brooks at 11:00am as he discusses “How to Know a Person”.

Need financial guidance? Schedule a one-on-one meeting with a Financial Advisor on January 8 or 15 at 11:00am through the library. These personalized sessions help you tackle money management questions.

Entertainment for Music Lovers and Night Owls

Head to the Ale & Cider House on January 8 from 5:30pm to 9:30pm for Open Mic Night at 1720 Willamette Falls Drive. This weekly tradition showcases local talent and welcomes performers of all styles.

Teen Scene Heats Up

Teens have a busy second half of January, starting with Minecraft Club on January 13 at 4:30pm. Gaming continues with the Mario Kart Party on January 14 at 4:30pm, where friendly competition takes center stage.

Creative expression gets its moment at the Teen Art Meet on January 15 at 4:30pm. Role-playing enthusiasts gather for Teen and Young Teen D&D sessions on January 11 at 2:00pm. Writers can develop their craft at the Library Writers Group meeting on January 14 at 5:30pm.

West Linn High School students celebrate at their Winter Formal on January 11 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

Family Winter Fun

Little Nestlings Early Learning Center hosts The Magic of Snowflakes on January 17 at 19200 Willamette Drive. This free, family-friendly event features storytime, watercolor-coffee-filter snowflake crafts, and a scavenger hunt. The hour-long program creates perfect opportunities for families to connect and enjoy hands-on winter activities.

Social Connections and Competitive Sports

Looking to expand your social circle? The Speed Friending event on January 15 at 4:00pm at the library offers a relaxed format for meeting new people. This structured yet casual event helps you build genuine connections.

Basketball takes over January 24 to 25 with the West Linn Winter Classic, featuring boys teams from 3rd through 8th grade. This state qualifier tournament guarantees each team four games across multiple divisions.

The Winter Dance on January 26 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm welcomes older teens and adults with cognitive or physical disabilities to the West Linn Adult Community Center. Supported by National Charity League volunteers, this inclusive celebration features upbeat music and refreshments for just $5 per person. Family and friends join the fun at this end-of-month gathering.
